Gauntlets

A study of a fantastical gilded steel gauntlet made in around 1485 in the gothic style of Emperor Maximilian I.

The history of armour and the dynamic between its functionality and decorative impact is something that fascinates me. This gauntlet (one of a pair) definitely fulfils the decorative criteria, its spiked elements and intricate etchings offering a wonderful dichotomy of fearsome savagery and delicate beauty.
