This illustration of a Roman Empress was conjured from my imagination, but based on research of clothing, hairstyles, and jewellery of that era.
In Greek mythology, the laurel wreath was a symbol of Apollo, god of the sun, truth, prophecy, music, poetry, archery, and healing.
The Romans adopted the laurel wreath as a decorative symbol of artistic and military triumph, using it to adorn the heads of their leaders. Even today, the laurel is used to signify achievement in the arts, for example the poetry award of Poet Laureate.
